Week Goals
Run/walk 3 times this week starting today- 3 miles a time
Spend at least 5 days (15 minutes a time) organizing/deep cleaning something not normally cleaned
2/23- ran/walked 3 miles outside this morning= took about 42 minutes
2/24- ran 3 miles outide- about 31 minutes (left knee hurt last mile)
2/25- ran/walked 3 miles outside about 33 minutes (left knee hurt a little but on a couple of downhills at end but much less then yesterday)
2/26 3miles in about 33 mins
2/27 shoveled snow for like 6 hours- joys of having plow business is a good workout
2/28 3 miles on treadmill 30:44 did it in interval form mostly 2 minutes on 8:44 pace and 2 minutes of walking at 4mph pace. Felt decently good during except for like I was going throw up briefly in the middle but when I stopped got stomach.

update on working on saving money goals
Things we need to work on:
not eating out so much- been doing good at this in February got to keep it up, not only because it is bad for our budget it is also bad for our waistline, although I do enjoy going out to eat at a reasonable priced restaurant sometimes- so am not going going to cut out restaurants all together
gas for car/truck consumption- I have been using very little gas in my car- only have filled up my car twice so far this year however, we usually take the husbands truck when we go out- I have been making sure to group my errands together, the husband stills goes "into town" as he calls it a lot when I feel like he could cut back and group more of his errands together- having a hard time making him do this.
using our woodstove more- the first year we had it was running almost constantly in the winter- we have been okay about this- but not great- its is running about 60 percent of the time and I have been making an effort to make sure we have wood brought in however sometimes we both get lazy about it and we have skipped a couple of days, plus sometimes it goes out at night and we don't get it started again right away in the morning.
turning off lights/appliances to save on electricity more- although I have been making a conscious effort to turn off lights when I leave the room- they still sometimes end up being left on and I noticed the husband had the heat running in the basement when he wasn't down there(very annoyed about that one), plus it seems like the heat in the office gets left on often and I have to turn it down because the husband forgets- so need to work on this.
more couponing- not much couponing this month, instead shopping at the discount store that doesn't take coupons- however need to do this to build up the stockpile of tooth paste, shampoo, razors, etc so we are not having to pay full price for these items.
not letting food go to waste in fridge- have been doing pretty good about this-- haven't had to throw out much.

update on food budget
After last months ridiculous amount spent on food/eating out/drinks ($620!). We have been doing much better this month. There is only 8 days left in the month and I shouldn't have to grocery shop again this month and we have spent around 300 dollars so far. My goal is to stay under 400 dollars every month. I do plan on going out to lunch on Friday since we are going on a drive to look at some things and I like to use the entertainment books b1g1 free coupons for restaurants in new towns. However tomorrow we are having another couple over for dinner instead of going out to eat, also we have been eating in a ton more and I have been cooking a lot of easy meals, however I have also been buying a lot less frozen meals and instead making things with a lot more vegetables and fruits. I did a lot of shopping at the discount grocery store this month, I did not use many coupons this month because there were not many good coupon match-ups of things I wanted to eat. For Valentine day we used our fondu pot to make cheese fondu and chocolate fondu.

Lunch/coffee money
"A new survey found that 66% of U.S. workers buy lunch regularly -- spending on average $37 a week, and half buy coffee at work, at a cost of more than $20 a week" (http://money.msn.com/saving-money-tips/post.aspx?post=a4bfe6f5-2fc2-4955-8765-089ae1c1c88d)
So if we take the 57 dollars times 2 (husband and me)= 114 dollars saved a week times 52 weeks = 5928 dollars a year saved. However since I know never going out to lunch is not going to happen, luckily we aren't coffee drinkers so that won't be to hard so say save 100 dollars a week times 52 weeks that is 5200 dollars to invest in 25 years we will have 410,000 dollars based on getting 8 percent interest rate for retirement or a vacation home. So I am going to try to keep track of how much we spend on Lunch/coffee and invest what we don't spend. The husband buys lunch out a lot in the in season so basically April thru December, I am much better about only buying lunch on occasion. We will see how it goes.Since I don't know how much we spent last year on these items I don't know how much we are actually saving by cutting back (plus if you don't eat out you have to eat at home which does cost some more money in the grocery bill), however if many people spend money on coffee, lunches (not to mention going to bars, cigarretes) I figure we can save at least what many other people spend on these items. A single friend recently told me he sometimes drops 120 dollars in the weekend at the bar! He has an average salary.
By the way a great book to read is "Smart Couples Finish Rich" which explains how little purchases can make a huge difference in your finances. I guess I better stop the target trips!
I finally got the husband to setup automatic withdraws to fund his Roth IRA and I am funding mine as well, so we are starting to do better about saving for retirement.
Week 1 February 17-23
Starting: 114 dollars
spent: 3.50 lunch me: left 110.50
spent: 1 drink husband: 109.50
spent: 15 lunch out with husband: 94.40
Left at end of week 1: 94:50

Target Clearance Weakness
I love target, however I only like really good deals so although I often admire there stuff unless I find good clearance deals (which are few and far between) I don't usually splurge. However occasionally I find something good for 75 percent off. Today, they had a ton of home stuff on clearance, which resulted in me spending too much on stuff I didn't really need, the above curtains for our family room which I love they were originally 19.99 marked down to 13.99 each panel so not even that well marked down but I love them. Luckily we only need 2 panels since we only have 1 big window. The duvet cover I actually thought of getting back last spring then decided on a different one, but it was marked down from 70 to 22 dollars- however looks much better in person then the picture but we really don't need it- however could be used in guest bedroom. I got a picture for our bathroom marked down from 24.99 to 7.50 (which was something I was going to buy since we just finished our bathroom remodel) and a 2 pack of stockings for 8 something marked down from 12 (also needed these for work clothes). I also got a shower curtain (what I was really shopping for) at Kohls for 7 dollars marked down from 40, but was free since I had a gift card from returning a christmas gift. So over all the curtains were totally worth it because I love them, the stockings were justified but the duvet cover I totally didn't need.

furniture deals
brought 4 of the barstools above (not a picture of our kitchen) for 25 dollars each for the husbands bar area- found them on Craigslist- figure they would cost at least 60 dollars each new and they are in excellent condition. The console table in the picture I brought with a 200 dollar gift card I won from furniture store for liking them on facebook. I also got 10 percent off for buying floor model, it was on sale and no sales tax because of their promotion, so paid 104 dollars for it. So we spent quite a bit on furniture today, but got good deals.

Vacation Money... where it comes from
I am not a big vacation fan. I prob would be happy going away only once every couple years if not at all. My husband said he didn't care about vacations a couple of years ago, but now is starting to like going on them and tries to get me to go on more.
I would much whether spend money on other things then vacation, however I do know they say you are happier spending money on experiences then things so we are starting to go on more. My husband owes a landscape business, therefore he buys a lot of materials for jobs that go on his credit card (which we pay off every month... except for one car which has a 0 percent interest rate with about 6,500 on it that we are keeping on a balance on right now since we are not paying interest) The credit card gives him 1 percent back in reward money on all his purchases, because he spends a very large amount for his clients we get quite a bit of reward money, which I now consider our vacation fund. So we have about 2,000? dollars maybe a year to go on vacation and I try to put it all towards vacations instead of things. Therefore I don't feel that guilty about spending money on vacations, it also allows us to budget for vacations, although I do believe we are going be slightly over our allotted amount this year.

We are only at 46 dollars for food so far this month! (not counting the vacation food- keeping that in the separate vacation fund)
I will keep updating this post instead of writing news one like last month because easier to have all our spending on one page. (Still haven't gotten around to adding up all the January total spending except for the food)

ways we save money/ things to work on
1. we heat our house by wood- we have a wood stove- the husband gets the wood for free since he is a landscaper from clients, etc and he makes it into firewood size pieces- we hae the woodstove running about 60 percent of the time which does a pretty good job of heating the whole house. We also have 3 zones which allows us to only turn up the heat in the zone we are in the other zones are set to stay at about 56 degrees.
2. I drive a 14 year old car- never had different car- although this may have to change when we have kids since it is a 2 door
3. Husband only buys used trucks for himself/business
4. We shopped around for truck insurance to get best rate
5. Couponing- haven't brought shampoo in prob about a year
6. rarely use paper towels- use washable dishclothes instead
7, husband does almost all our home renovations himself , i usually find good deals on materials, we use 10 percent off coupon from lowes all the time( unfort they discontinued this), Often look on the 5 dollar opps rack to find paint.
8, we both don't drink coffee, rarely buy drinks out (however husband does have kegerator he buys about 2 kegs for annually for parties/gatherings)
9. We haven't taken out any interest debt for a long time (a couple of years at least) we do have a small amount of debt for the business about 8,000 but is all on zero interest loans/credit card- all our business trucks and everything else is paid in full except for our mortgages, which have a low interest rate of 5 percent or under.
10. E-mail many of our clients their bills to save on stamps/paper
11. never went on vacations before this past year and half however now husband loves them- however we have been only going on vacations that are partially paid for by seeing a timeshare- i personally wouldn't want to go on more then 1 vacation a year- unfort the husband doesn't agree
12. 75 percent or more of our furniture is used the rest were bargains/clearance items
13. almost all our clothes are brought on clearance
14. almost all my home decor/decoration items are clearance items/ hand me downs from grandmas- antiques and such
15. all our china for dining room is grandmas hand me down
16. brought a 250 dollar treadmill for walmart to run on when too cold outside instead of joining a gym
17. I trim my own hair and haven't gotten a hair cut in a couple of years. Partly because they always cut off too much and partly because I think it is a waste of money to go every 2 months- although I do need to go eventually to get it layered some.
18. The husband only gets his hair cut about 3 times a year- partly because he likes it long, partly because he is lazy. I used to cut his hair but he doesn't trust me to do it that much. I like his hair to be neat so would prefer for him to go a little more often.
19. I don't get manicures/pedicures- besides thinking they are a waste of money I worry about the equipment they use (I am a little bit of germaphobe)
20. Husband takes garbage to dump instead of paying for garbage service
21. annual garage sale? Okay not annual yet however last year friend and I had one and we plan on having one again this year- although not sure I am going to have a ton to sell. However it keeps the house clutter free (okay not completly clutter free but better then it would be) and makes a little bit of money. I also sell stuff we no longer need/use on craigslist.
Things we need to work on:
not eating out so much
gas for car/truck consumption
using our woodstove more- the first year we had it was running almost constantly in the winter
turning off lights/appliances to save on electricity more
more couponing
not letting food go to waste in fridge
